Understanding Class Drops and Reinstatement Options
This article explains why students may be dropped from their program, when drops can still be reversed, how to request reinstatement, and how medical-related drops are handled differently.
Students are typically dropped for one of two reasons:
(1) 4 consecutive missed classes without contacting your advisor, or
(2) failing to complete required externship hours by the program end date.
The good news: most drops can be reversed if you act quickly. For Medical Assistant (MAS) and Dental Assistant (DAS) programs, drops are generally reversible up through week 12 of your cohort, as long as you complete the missing hours or assignments and submit them within the same term. After your scheduled graduation date, drops can no longer be reversed - your file moves to the alumni system.
To request reinstatement: reply to your drop-notification email (or open a new ticket if it was more than 30 days ago), attach proof of completed hours or finished coursework, and include a brief explanation of what changed. Your advisor will route the request to the Compliance team, and you'll get a decision within 2 business days.
If you've been dropped due to a medical issue or hospitalization, see the article What happens if I miss class because of illness - medical drops follow a separate, more flexible process.
