How do I request an externship extension?
This article explains how students can request an extension to complete their 80 externship hours, what information must be included in the request, what extensions cover, and important limitations related to tuition and voucher-code deadlines.
If you can't finish your 80 externship hours by your scheduled end week, you can request an extension. Most extension requests are approved when submitted in advance with a clear reason.
Submit your request at least 7 days before your final scheduled week. Email your Academic Advisor with:
(1) your current hours completed (pull this from your clock-in sheet),
(2) the reason for the delay - common approved reasons are work conflicts, family emergencies, illness, or transportation issues,
(3) your proposed new completion date.
Standard extensions are 2 weeks (for example, Week 16 to Week 18). Longer extensions may require a one-on-one call with your advisor and the Compliance team.
What an extension does NOT do: it does not pause tuition payments, and it does not extend your voucher-code expiration. If finances are a concern, ask your advisor about adjusting your payment plan during the extension.
Tip: keep your daily clock-in sheet up to date - students who fall behind often discover they had more hours than they thought once their site supervisor signs off on partial weeks.
