What is the Arizona State Licensing Process?

Radiography Requirements

In order to legally operate dental x-ray equipment and perform dental radiographic procedures under the general supervision of a licensed dentist in Arizona, a dental assistant must:

1a.  Pass the national DANB Radiation Health and Safety (RHS) exam,

OR

2a.  Be currently certified in another U.S. jurisdiction that requires successful completion of a written dental radiography exam, AND

2b.  Apply to the Arizona State Board of Dental Examiners (ASBDE) for Dental Assistant Radiography Certification by Credential and receive the Arizona Radiologic Proficiency Certificate, issued by the ASBDE.

 

1. What: Radiation Health and Safety Certification
2. When: Instructors will have students fill out RHS Exam applications in class!
3. What does the processing look like & when do they get/hear back: 

    • Once applications are submitted in class, the instructor will mail them to the corporate office (it can take up to 2 weeks to receive applications).
    • Once the applications are received in the mail, the Campus Manager will fill out the payment information on the student applications.
    • After applications are filled out, they are faxed to DANB to be processed.
      • Applications can take one to two weeks to be processed.
    • Students will receive a Test Admissions Notice (instructions to schedule the exam) in one to two weeks.
    • Students will have a 60-day testing window.
    • Students will receive results two to three weeks from the exam date.
